Bluffton ~ The best gem of South Carolina

Bluffton ~ The best gem of South Carolina

Calling Bluffton home

As the inventor of G'Bye G'Nats! Nature's Bug Repellent, I am so grateful to call Bluffton home. In fact, it truly was the best place to put my formula to the test before presenting it to the public. Bluffton and the Low Country itself is a region of vast, moist salty marshes, pluff mud, and humid weather.  All which attract biting insects like mosquitoes and the notorious "no-see-ums". These biting insects thrive in this type of enviroment.

Most people question if the no-see-ums are considered seasonal. They actually can persist year round if the weather stays warm, but usually peak in early spring and early fall. No-see-ums are most active at dawn and dusk, so prepare yourselves with the best ammo, G'Bye G'Nats! and enjoy all the outdoor activities of Bluffton.

The Bluffton I remember and now

Being just outside of well-known Hilton Head, it was bound to grow. I lived here in the mid 90's and I remember it was just a tiny little town no one really heard of. There was no Cross Island bridge, no Buckwalter parkway, just one main road from I-95 to Hilton Head. I moved back to Bluffton in 2020, so I have seen a lot of changes!

Why I have always loved Bluffton

I want to share the simpler side of Bluffton that still exists today. Maybe that's where they coined the saying, "Bluffton State of Mind". It is still a quiet, quaint town with the beautiful May River flowing along the historical edge of town. I lived walking distance to the May River and always enjoyed the smell of the salty marsh. Now, this little piece of paradise is called Old Town Bluffton.

Back in the 90's, I remembered people moved slower here. There wasn't a whole lot to do. It seemed everyone knew their neighbors and the kids had a special freedom roaming about and exploring. They were always outside. I sure did a lot of front porch sittin'. What a treasured memory. The locals are still just as friendly. And now, Bluffton has grown and blossomed into a town filled with southern charm and beautiful architecture. It still beholds its history and culture, like the local industry called the Bluffton Oyster Company, which now has a new park nearby overlooking the May River which holds holiday outdoor church services and festivals.

Old Town Bluffton

Old Town Bluffton has always been one of my most favorite places. It now has a variety of businesses, schools, eating establishments, parks, churches, neighborhoods and so much to do outside. Every Thursday I love participating in the Bluffton Farmer's Market. You will find everything from fresh produce to local artisans. The kids will love the nearby playground.

Nothing is more beautiful than experiencing Spring in Bluffton. Flowering azaleas, wisteria and dogwoods are everywhere. The Spanish Oaks with their flowing moss is something I will never get tired of. The May River is a beautiful place to sit and relax while taking in the beauty and watching the dolphins swim by.

It seems Bluffton just keeps on growing like most places. There's always something new to discover, like fishing and boating excursions to Palmetto Bluff, Daufuskie Island and Hilton Head on the May River.

Bluffton has so much to enjoy. Come and see what I mean! Remember to always bring your G'Bye G'Nats! Bug Repellent to deter our biting bugs. It truly is a local favorite that works, so you can enjoy the beautiful outdoors of Bluffton and beyond!
